Second marriage was to SGT James Madison "Matt" Luxton, a Confederate veteran, and half-brother of Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest. 6 children were born from this marriage.
Mary Luxton suffered a broken back a few years befor her death. Family stories say that she was doing laundry, when she was butted in the back by a pet ram. She became addicted to laudanum or morphine which she took to endure the pain. This condition (either her broken back, or addiction) contributed to her death in 1907.
