Born to James Jackson Jameson and Louella Ann Smith in Thomaston, Georgia, in July 1841. First marriage was to Rufus Ezekiel Arnold on December 6th, 1857 at age 16 in Arkansas. They had one son, John H. Arnold in 1866.

Second marriage was to SGT James Madison "Matt" Luxton, a Confederate veteran, and half-brother of Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest. 6 children were born from this marriage.

Mary Luxton suffered a broken back a few years befor her death. Family stories say that she was doing laundry, when she was butted in the back by a pet ram. She became addicted to laudanum or morphine which she took to endure the pain. This condition (either her broken back, or addiction) contributed to her death in 1907.
