Actress. A pioneering theater actress, she is the namesake of the "Tony Award" (full name "The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre"), the awards given annually to performers and creative figures involved in productions in Broadway theatre in New York City, New York. She founded the American Theatre Wing in 1917, and the award was named for her when it was established in 1947, a year after her death.
