Carlos A. (Carl) Thompson on August 24, 2009, was surrounded by his loving family, when he left for his Heavenly Home to be united with the loved ones he has missed for many years.

Carl was born June 19, 1919 to his goodly parents Joseph Benjamin and Alice Elizabeth Clark. His given name was Carlos but he preferred to be called Carl. He met and married the love of his life, his friend and companion for sixty one years, LaDonna Jean Taylor on Dec. 24, 1948.

Together they had three daughters: Colene Young, Wash.; Carla Jean Young Gatton, deceased; Sherry Kay Couepel, deceased; and one son, Steven Guy Thompson, who brought us another special daughter, Jody K.

They have been blessed with 24 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Carl was one of seven children, all deceased. He always had a special love for Donna's family and claimed them as his own: Ken and Elaine Taylor, Vernal; John Taylor, Vernal; Ed and Sharon Taylor, Kansas; Lil and Joe Clayburn, Bridgeland; Joe-Ann and Ray Summarell, Vernal; LaRene Ross, Joseph, Utah; Glenda and Tony Perea and Jenene Mullins, West Valley, Utah.

Carl spent 3 ½ years in the Army during WWII in the Military Police. His main duties included transporting P.O.W.s back and forth across the United States, to different Camps, crowd control, and all military functions. He received many expert medals for sharp shooting of all Army artillery. He also received good conduct medals and commendations for a job well done.

Carl worked for many years as a foreman for United Concrete Pipe Co. in Pleasant Grove, Utah, where they built the entire pipe line for the Salt Lake Aqueduct. They also shipped pipe all over the U.S.

After having his first heart attack, on the advisement of his family doctor to get a job out of the weather, he went to work for the Alpine School District as head Maintenance Engineer for over twenty years. From there he moved back to Vernal, his old home town, and worked for the Uintah School District until he retired. Not being able to settle in to retirement, he went to work at Chevron, now known as Simplott as a security guard. He was only there a few years when his health started failing and he finally settled into retirement, doing the things he loved best: fishing, camping with his family and making things for people. He won several blue ribbons for his handicrafts.

He was a High Priest in the L.D.S. Church, and had many callings. Working on the Church farms was a great enjoyment to him as his family could be with him. He was a home teacher for over 25 years. He also was a Scout Master and Secretary. Carl was a great mentor to many.

We thank our Heavenly Father for all the many years we have had him in our lives and the example he set for us. He will forever live in our hearts and all of those whose lives he has touched.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary. Interment was at the Maeser Cemetery. Full Military Services were presented by the Utah National Guard and the American Legion Post 124 & 11. Compassionate services were at his home by the Glines 1st Ward Relief Society and family.

All the family wishes each of you that were a part of his life and of his passing our heartfelt love, thanks and appreciation. In lieu of flowers the family requested a donation to Primary or Jensen Legion Post.
