He leaves his wife of 53 years, Eileen G. (Bugbee) Nelson, a son, David R. Nelson of Southbridge, four daughters, Audrey L. Benoit of Worcester, Roberta L. Nelson, Dianna L. Winders, and Gail L. Pennell, all of Spencer, a brother, Edward Nelson of Boylston, a sister, Eleanora Krause of Worcester, and six grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A son, Daniel Nelson, died in 1961. A daughter, Sharon L. Nelson died in 1995. A sister, Marion Alfreds died in 1999.
He was born in Worcester, son of Walter T. Nelson Sr. (born 1891) and Cora D. (Grout) Nelson (born 1896), and also lived in Rochdale before moving to Spencer in 1955. Walter can be found with his parents and grandparents (Walter T Gront and Anna Gront) on the 1930 Census for Worcester.
He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Nelson worked 45 years at Bancroft Motors in Worcester, retiring as a registry runner in 1986. He previously worked at General Roofing & Sidewall in Worcester. He was a member of the Rochdale American Legion Post 204. He collected model trains and enjoyed fishing.
