Clarence Fell Campbell, 91, Brookings, died Oct. 15, 2001.
He was born July 12, 1910, in Heber Springs, Ark., to Gus and Lena Campbell in Heber Springs.
He married Selma Gregory in Heber Springs on Sept. 14, 1929. He was a business owner for many years, buying a grocery store, restaurant, pool hall and gas station.
Mr. Campbell served in the Navy on a ship from 1944 to 1946. He moved to Brookings in 1947 and bought two saw mills. In 1951, he built North Brookings Shopping Center. He served as city council member, mayor, county judge and commissioner, and served on the Coos-Curry Electric board of directors. He was the president of Oregon Coast Assocication, president of Curry County Board of Realtors, life member of V.F.W. and Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Grange past member BPO, First Baptist Community Church, life member of Decon Emeritus and an avid bowler.
Mr. Campbell was responsible for getting the Elk River Fish Hatchery built. In 1970, he built Campbell Realty, where he worked until his retirement in 1984.
He is survived by his wife; son, Jim and his wife Pat; grandson, Jimmy and his wife Barbara; grandson, Mike and his wife Joann; great-grandsons Greg and his wife Brittany, Andrew, Cameron, Brandon, and Dalton; great-granddaughter, Kim; and one great-great-grandson Trentyn.
He is also survived by brothers Fate, Cy and Dennis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, or the Alzheimers Association.
