Russell K. "Bill" Weatherbie, age 88, died May 4, 2002 at the Moran Nursing Home, Moran,
Kansas.

He was born East of Blue Mound, Kansas on February 11, 1914; number ten of eleven children, (ten
sons and one daughter); to George K. and Mary Belle Dellinger Weatherbie.

Bill attended schools in Blue Mound and later in Garnett when his family moved to Glenlock,
Kansas.

Bill and Dorothy E. Harris were married on January 11, 1945 at Ft. Scott, Kansas.

Bill was a veteran of World War II, having served over four years with the 5th Army. He was in
Northern Italy during the Northern Apennines and Po Valley campaigns where he was awarded two
Bronze Stars. Bill was honorably discharged as Staff Sargent on December 11, 1945.

Following his military service, he barbered in Kansas City, Missouri, working at the same barber
shop where President Truman received haircuts when in the area visiting his hometown of
Independence, Missouri. He later barbered in Lenexa, Kansas for several years until retiring in 1980
when he then returned to Kincaid to live.

Both Bill and Dorothy were active members of the First Baptist Church of Kincaid until his health
failed. He had served on the Baptist Church Board as Trustee & Deacon; was a past member of the
VFW Post 7039 and Kincaid Lions Club; was a former Treasurer of the Kincaid Fire Department
and had also served on the Kincaid Cemetery Board.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of the home, daughter Pamela I. Weatherbie of Independence,
Missouri; several devoted nieces and nephews; in-laws and many friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Fred, Charlie, Eugene, Samuel, George,
Harrison, Frank and Max; and a sister, Mary Jane Chiles.

Funeral Services will be 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at Johnsen-Kunkel Mortuary, Moran, with
Mr. Lloyd Houk officiating. Family visitation will be held Monday evening, May 6, 2002 from 7:00
P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Johnson-Kunkel Mortuary, Moran. Interment will take place in Pleasant
View Cemetery, Blue Mound, Kansas with full military graveside rites provided by Ft. Riley.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Activity Department of the Moran
Nursing Home and may be left in care of Johnson-Kunkel Mortuary, P.O. Box 218, Moran, Kansas
66755.
