Robert was born in San Diego, Calif., to the late Frank and Elizabeth Van Valin. He graduated from San Diego High School and Georgia Tech where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Robert was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Navy as a submarine officer. He also served in the Korean War as a commanding officer in an Underwater Demolition Team, now known as the Navy SEALS. Robert lived in Texas for over 50 years where he had his own business, Van Valin and Associates, for over 35 years.
He was preceded in death by a son, Peter Curtis Van Valin.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Barge Van Valin; his son, Robert Jr.; daughters, Elizabeth Stewart and Drusilla Davies; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, those that wish may make contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the charity of their choice.
