Mrs. Margaret A. McElvain, 99, one of Pemiscot County's oldest citizens, died Thursday, October 16 at the Host House in Charleston, where she had lived for the past several months. She was born January 18, 1870 in Illinois and was the widow of Jerry McElvain, who died in 1924.
Services were held Saturday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. William Stanton officiating. Burial was in Little Prairie Cemetery with Dean Funeral Home in charge.
She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Minerva Roach of this city; four grandsons, Mack Burnett of Memphis, Billy McElvain of Milwakee, Wisc., Clyde and Herbert McElvain of Greenboro, N.C.; three granddaughters, Mrs. Russell Turnage of Memphis, Mrs. Mary Margaret McGarrity of Orange, Calif. and Mrs. Martha Mucica of Caruthersville; three great-grandsons, Sonny and Tommy Burnett of Memphis and Jerry Burnett of Batesville, Ark.; 13 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren. Five sons preceded her in death.
