Dora C. Race, 90, of Sparta, died at 12:40 p.m. Monday at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield. Services for Mrs. Race were held Wednesday at the Harris Chapel, Ozark, with the Rev. Carl Thompson officiating. Burial was in Sparta Cemetery. Mrs. Race was born in Sparta, Aug. 2, 1897, to Osro O. and Mary E. (Walker) Abbott. She had resided in Sparta for most of her life, living away from the community for only 15 years, in Burkburnett, Texas. She was a member of the Sparta Baptist Church. Surviving include one sister, Mrs. Elsie Bird, Sparta; one niece, Naomi Harper, Springfield; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Merle Race, Sparta; one step-granddaughter, Mrs. Joyce Barnett, Sparta; and several grand nieces and nephews.
