The killing of Henry Hodnett at, or near, Daviston on last Friday was a most unfortunate affair. Those engaged in the wrestling match were friendly, but in a moment of anger one friend drives a knife into a friend and sorrow is brought into two homes. There is needed some lessons by the administration of the law in order to check crime. The dissemination of the principles of justice, truth, religion and education are essential to better the condition. The people in and around Daviston have had a sad experience within the past year, and we hope that the school teachers, the preachers, and the best people in that section will do something to check crime and to elevate the morals of the people.

Last Friday evening at Mr. W. B. Burke's a most unfortunate killing occurred. Mr. Henry Hodnett, an honest and upright young man of thirty years, was the man killed. Ben Fant, a young married man was the slayer. He has a good wife and three bright children. The preliminary trial was held in Daviston before Justice Price. Ben was immediately carried from Daviston to Dadeville and lodged in jail. Mr. Hodnett was buried Sunday at Darien Church.
