Alma Sullivan 81, formerly of Wagoner, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, in Austin, Texas. She was born to William and Hattie (Scott) Nichols on May 20, 1915, in Harrison, Arkansas. She spent most of her life within 50 miles of Wagoner. On July 17, 1932, she married A. B. "Beecher" Sullivan. In April 1960, they purchased a local business, which became known at Sullivan's Pro Hardware. She operated the store until she retired in 1979. After retirement, Mrs. Sullivan focused her attention on her art lessons and doing what she could for others. One of her most dedicated lifelong projects was her contributions to the Baptist Children's Home. For years, she gathered aluminum cans to raise money for the home. To her, her gifts to the home were a special ministry and a way to help clean up the Wagoner Community that was so special to her.
She was a member of the community from 1960 until she moved to Kingsland, Texas, in December 1996.
Mrs. Sullivan was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church and was a respected member of the community and a dear friend to anyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, two brothers, and a grandson.
Surivors include a son, Harold Sullivan and his wife, Mary of Disney, Oklahoma; a daughter, Mary Lou Hicks and her husband Alan of Burnet, Texas; two half-brothers, W. D. Nichols of Midwest City and Lance Nichols of Mounds City, Kansas; a half-sister, Jean Faucett of Tulsa; five grandchildren, Renee, James, Bryan, Danny and Dimita; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 19, 1997 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Wagoner with the Rev. Eddie James and Willie Rice officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner.
Funeral services were under the direction of Shipman funeral Home and Crematory in Wagoner.
