Ruth was born on February 5, 1927 in Pleasant Mills, Indiana the daughter of the late Harry Suman Sr. and the late Bessie (Drummond) Suman. She was united in marriage to Richard P. Hurst on October 28, 1944.
She was a member of the Grace Fellowship Church in Decatur where she had been a Sunday School teacher and involved in the Food Pantry. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting.
Ruth was a homemaker and had worked at Stewarts Bakery; CTS in Berne; Adams Memorial Hospital; and Lakeside Manor (now known as Adams-Woodcrest) in Decatur.
Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Richard P. Hurst of Decatur, IN; daughter, Cynthia Hurst Wright of Decatur, IN; daughter, Mona (Charles) Hurst-Beer of Berne, IN; brother, Rev. Floyd Suman of Ashland, KY; brother, Rev. "Gene" Harold (Lorena) Suman of Defiance, OH; brother, Don (Jane) Suman of Decatur, IN; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, seven great great-grandchildren.
Preceding Ruth in death were a son, Steven Hurst; eight brothers: Lester, Walter, Earl, John, Harry Jr., Otho, Kenneth, and Gordon Suman; and a sister: Dora Rayl.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2016 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Rev. Dan York officiating.
Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2016 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Family LifeCare in Berne.
