Hosea G. Stevens died at his residence on Dry Creek on November 21, 1909. The deceased was born November 15, 1829 in Tennessee, settled in Missouri in early life, and was married to Miss Catherine Redmond in 1860.

Eight children blessed this union; four boys and four girls, six of whom survive him.

Brother Stevens was a consistent member of the Missionary Baptist Church, for 47 years. His membership was in Twelve Mile Church of God, which he served in the capacity of Deacon. In his death his aged and feeble wife loses a loving and affectionate companion, his children a kind father and the community an honored citizen.

The Funeral was preached at Mount Pisgah Church by Elder J.J. White. The sermon was preached from Hebrews 9:27. It being bad weather the large congregation that filled the house was evidence of how he was esteemed as a good neighbor and friend. Just at the dark shades of night, he was laid to rest in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery to await the resurrection morn. Weep not as those that have no hope, for blessed are those that die in the Lord. Precious in His sight are the dead of his saints, with this scripture I will say, be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life.

May those scriptures and the grace of God comfort all the family in their sad hour of bereavement, because He doeth all things well. We are taught that we will know him when the Heavenly hosts will be dispatched to earth with a voice that will awaken the sleeping dead, they who died in the Lord will shine forth as the noon-day sun.

May God's blessings rest over all the loved ones is my prayer. Another one has gone from earth, to join that throng above; He knows the joy and peace that's given through His redeeming love.
