He was a lifetime area resident. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1942, after attending St. John Lutheran School.
Lawrence honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 69th Infantry. He was a bronze star recipient.
Mr. Pankop was the owner and operator of Hilkert & Pankop, Inc. in Kendallville for many years.
He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville, Kendallville VFW Post 2749, and Kendallville American Legion Post 86.
Lawrence was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed camping and fishing trips with his family.
He was born November 24, 1924, in Kendallville to Edward and Alma (Hoffman) Pankop.
On May 21, 1948, he married Vivian I. McGiffin. She preceded him in death on August 23, 1990.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Linda Pankop of Albion and James and Carol Pankop of Kendallville; and four grandchildren, Rachel Pankop of Indianapolis, Rebecca Pankop of Indianapolis, Clint and Katie Pankop of Littleton, Colorado, and Carleigh Pankop of Kendallville.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Hubert Pankop.
Honor guard services will be provided by Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Kendallville American Legion Post 86, Rome City American Legion Post 381, and active duty members of the U.S. Army.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
