CANON CITY — Christopher Lee Burnett, 23, passed away as a result of a traffic accident in Ft. Collins, Colo. on Thur., Aug. 20, 2009. He was the beloved son of Dawn Burnett, and cherished brother of Nichole Burnett of Canon City, Colo.

Chris is survived by his father L.W. Burnett III; half-brother Bryan Burnett of Washington; his mother's companion Richard Hatch; grandmother Ione Koenig; great-grandmother Georgia Quiller; aunt Kim (Kenny) Rodman; uncle Kenny (Deanna) Koenig, - all of Alamosa; grandfather Buddy Burnett of Miss; aunt Lori (Ray) Turner of Okla. and uncle Max Burnett of Ark, as well as by other family and friends. His loving nature and infectious warm smile will certainly be missed. Chris was preceded in death by his older brother Jarrod Burnett, grandfather Ed Koenig and grandmother Nancy Ogg.

Chris was born in Bryan, Texas on July 2, 1986, and raised in Alamosa and later moving to Canon City where he attended school and actively participated in football and track. Many will remember him as one of the football team's most competitive running backs #20. After graduation in 2005, Chris served his country in the Air Force, and upon completion of military service, he settled in Ft. Collins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am Tue., Aug. 25, 2009 at the Evangelical Free Church at 3000 E. Main St., Canon City. Graveside services will be the following day at 2 pm at the Alamosa Cemetery where his ashes will be interred. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MADD. Arrangements handled by Holt Family Funeral Home.
