Alice began life in Eleva on Sept. 19, 1918. She was born to George and Ethel Tollefson, where they lived in the Tollefson Valley. After completing eight grade, Alice went to work at the town's hotel to help support her family. It was there that Alice first learned to cook and bake. She married Roy Struck in 1939, and gave birth to Pam and Kaye. They all moved to Spokane, Wash., in 1942, where Cheryl and Michael were later born. Alice remarried in 1958 to Roy Emch, and had the last of her five children, Patrick, in 1960. Alice lived a rich, happy life enjoying fishing, pinochle, gardening and homemaking. Her specialty during the holidays was baking plates of Norwegian cookies and her famous lefse for all the family. It seemed every dinner was a five-course meal at Alice's house. Alice always took such pride in her appearance, dressing to the "nines" at all times.
Alice was preceded in death by husbands, Roy Struck and Roy Emch; five brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by her sister, Doris Sather of Strum; her children, Pam Sullivan, Kay Struck, Cheryl (Ken) Kiehn, Mike Struck and Patrick (Robin) Emch; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom will be greatly missed and remembered for her loving nature, big hugs and thoughtful ways. We love you, Mom, Grandma and GG - you will never be forgotten. "Tap 'er light" - Uff-Da.
A celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. on her birth date of Sept. 19, at Riplinger Funeral Home, Spokane, Wash.
