Mrs Marilla Gilbert died this morning, at the home of her daughter, Dr. H. Pettigrew, at Woodlawn Springs, east of this city. Until the last two months, during which she had been unwell, she resided with her son, Mr. John B. Gilbert, a prominent farmer and dairyman of Jordan. She was the wife of Jabez Gilbert, who died in 1844. Her maiden name was Marilla West and she was born in Connecticut in 1796, and was consequently in her 93 year. She was married in 1815, and came west in 1839, settling in Jordan. Mrs. Gilbert was the mother of nine children. Her's was a very useful life, her nature being one that would not brook idleness,and she brought up her family to be useful members of society. She was a Christian lady, kind and charitable to all. Her presence will be sadly missed by those to whom she has been so greatly endeared. The funeral services will take place at the Springs on Monday at 2:30 p.m. Friends invited.
