The funeral of George E. Crow, for a many years a resident of this county, whose death on January 18, 1921, near LeGrande, Oregon, was mentioned last week was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. L.M. Allen, and was largely attended by many of his old neighbors, friends and army comrades. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery beside his wife who died April 28, 1900.
For sixteen years he had been a resident of Ager, California, where he owned and operated a ranch, but lately his health failed and A.R. Smith of Council Bluffs, Iowa, went to his aid and the one desire of the deceased was to return to Iowa that he might see his children and here pass away, as he knew the end was near. The start was made, but near LeGande, Oregon, the end came, the result of heart complications and old age.
Mr. Crow was born at McConnellsville, Ohio, June 14, 1840, and with his parents came to Adams County and settled near Quincy, Iowa, then the county seat, October 31, 1856, where he enlisted in Co. D. 29th Iowa in April 1862, and was with the army of the Gulf. After the war he returned to civil life and was married July 11, 1867, to Miss Fannie Harlow, and to them were born eight children, two dying when quite young.

The living childen being; Charles E. Crow of Massena, Iowa; Mrs. Willard Walton of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mrs. F.G. White and Mrs. S.P. Shaw of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Mrs. L.M. Allen of Corning, Iowa; and Mrs. Ray Williams of Muscatine, Iowa. All were present at the funeral which was conducted by Rev. Jay Kirkendall of the M.E. Church.

He was one of the few living members of Co. D. 29th Iowa, that was largely made up of young men from this county.
