His funeral will be 12:00 Noon Friday, February 25, 2022, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. Interment will follow in the Halfway Creek Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday.
Mr. Ackerman was born February 2, 1932, in Shulerville, SC, a son of William Bluford Ackerman and Jimmy Ruth Shuler Ackerman. He attended Bethany Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. After his retirement from the Charleston Naval Shipyard, Mr. Ackerman began a new career as the assistant camp ranger at the Girl Scout Plantation from which he later retired. He loved fishing, hunting, and gardening, but one of his favorite past times was fellowshipping with not only his friends and family, but also anyone he would meet. Mr. Ackerman was preceded in death by four sisters, Lottie Gaskins, Ruth Gaskins, Leila Ackerman, and Floride McManus, and three brothers, Robert Ackerman, Ira Ackerman, and Richard Ackerman. He was the widower of Remonia Miller Ackerman.
Surviving are his daughter, Donna Marie Cales of Jamestown; a son, Edward M. O'Quinn of Hanahan; four grandchildren, Patricia (Ritchie) Casselman of St. Stephen, Angela (Charles) Phillips of Cordesville, Allen (Angel) Blakley of Moncks Corner, and Kelly Don (Christina) O'Quinn of Hanahan; eight great grandchildren, Jacob Casselman, Dylan McMakin, Katelynn Mills, Hannah Blakley, Alysen Blakley, Olivia Blakley, Matthew O'Quinn, and Christopher O'Quinn; and two great-great grandchildren, Waylon Tollison and Raylynn Mills.
