September 19, 1969: Fort Worth Star-Telegram, page 16-A: "Turnpike Wreck is Fatal to Doctor: Arlington: Dr. William Hodges McKnight, an airline doctor for nearly 40 years, was killed yesterday in a traffic accident on the Dallas - Fort Worth Turnpike. Dr. McKnight, 74, of 403 East Broad in Mansfield, became Tarrant County's 103rd traffic fatality of the year. He was dead on arrival at Arlington Memorial Hospital at 3:40 p.m., after his car and a truck loaded with scrap metal collided about a mile west of the Fielder Road exit near Village Creek. His car burst into flames after impact, and passersby pulled Dr. McKnight from the wreckage. The truck driver, Billy C. Housewright, 38, of 5408 David Strickland Road, received minor cuts and bruises and was not hospitalized.
Dr. McKnight, a bachelor, had served as a doctor for American Airlines since 1930. He had been medical director for the airlines since 1942.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Shannon's South chapel. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Donald Warner, Sr. of Mercedes, and Mrs. Hal S. Lattimore of Fort Worth, and a brother, James Stephen McKnight of Mansfield.
