National Sprint Car Racer. Born in Jefferson, Ohio, he was a veteran of 12 seasons of professional auto racing, the AAA Midwestern Champion and is rated as one of the top 100 drivers of all time. In 1948, he drove in relief for Joie Chitwood at the Indy 500 and finished 17th. Later that same year, he had a fatal accident at the Dayton Speedway, Ohio, when he lost control of his Iddings Offenhauser car on the 3rd lap, took out 30 feet of safety fence before plunging 40 feet off the banking.
