Joseph Ralph Bellman was born at Ocean Springs, Jackson County, Mississippi, on February 24, 1870. In Mobile, Alabama, on February 12,1901, he married Elizabeth Missouri New, a native of Cottage Hill, Alabama, and the daughter of John Samuel New and Louisa (Thompson) New.
Their children were: Joseph Henry Bellman, Carrie Edna (Bellman) Russell Lewis (she married Thad Russell, then William Lewis), Charles John Bellman (he married Evelyn Florence Culbreth), and Cecile Louise (Bellman) Turner married Bernard Turner.
