Macklin Cowden was born June 22, 1848 in New Springfield, Ohio. He was a Civil War veteran, having enlisted at the age of 16 in Co. K. 18th Regiment, Ohio Infantry Volunteers. After his discharge he came to Indiana where he made his home with Ben Renkenberger in Swan Twp, following the trade of painter and decorator. In 1889 he married Carrie M. Dolan. They had 4 daughters and 2 sons, one daughter and 2 sons preceding him in death. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Avilla, the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Life Associates of Ben Hur. He died Feb. 7 at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 16 days. He is survived by the widow; 3 daughters, Mrs. Seckle Yarian of Swan Twp, Mrs. J. E. Padgitt of Avilla, Mrs. Ora Miller at home; and 4 grandchildren; a sister, Laura Miller of McKeesport, and a brother George of Hubbard, Ohio. obit courtesy of Anne Rupert (#21366448)
