James Wood was born in Scotland and emigrated to Texas in 1851 with his parents and 8 siblings. Several of the family members became ill in Leon County, Texas. James and his older sister, Christina, died in Leon County. Little James was wrapped in a blanket and buried along side a creek in a grove of trees. His grave is unmarked. This information was found in a letter written by Isabella Riddell Wood, his mother three months after his death.
This marker is most likely a marker for James Wood, Sr. or James Ward (grandson of James, Sr.) but it is not the grave of James Wood, Jr.
