Marvin Vaughn, 85, died December 11, 2004 at Boone County Hospital in Boone. Services are Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery East of Luther.
He was born in rural Humeston, Iowa on December 24, 1918 to Otto and Shirley (Hart) Vaughn. He graduated from Humeston High School in1939 and received Honorable Mention in football in 1939 for the Des Moines Register All State Team. He married Thelma Auxler in Humeston on September 28, 1946. From 1949 to 1952, he was an animal care taker for Ingram Farms in Waukee. From 1952 until 1980, he was an animal car taker for swine at the animal department at Iowa State University. After his retirement in 1980, the couple moved from Napier to Boone. He loved sports and reading about sports and attending games at any level. He was a member of Napier United Methodist Church and later First United Methodist Church in Boone.
Preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Glenys, one brother Max, two brothers-in-law Bill McCullough and Maurice Auxler. Survivors include his wife Thelma of Boone; one son Stanley and wife Pam of Omaha, Nebraska; 1 daughter Norine Vaughn of Boone; two grandchildren Tim Vaughn and wife Denai of Omaha Nebraska and Suni Stolp and husband Mic of Sugar Land, Texas; one great grand daughter Cassie; two brothers Dick Vaughn Frandson and wife Shirley of Story City, Carrol Vaughn and wife Arlene of Kellogg; one sister Marilyn Moore and husband Dick of Corydon; three sisters-in-law, Lorene Vaughn of Ames, Wilma McCullough of Des Moines and Virginia Auxier of Humeston; one brother-in-law Leslie Auxier and wife Wilma of Clio.
Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until service time where the family will be present during that time.Memorials to Napier United Methodist Church or Multiple Sclerosis Association.
