Doris June Godfrey, age 77, passed away July 6, 2009 in Fresno, California. She was born June 3, 1932 on Wolf Creek near Mansfield, Missouri.
Doris' family moved to Sanger, California in 1935.
Doris met Donald Godfrey on the 4th of September 1952 while he was home on leave from the US Air Force and afer a two week courtship, they were married on the 18th of September 1952.
Donald was born 1 May 1933 in Spartanburg, South Carolina and his family moved to California in 1936.
Donald went to Japan for 18 months, a week after they were married. This was the longest they were seperated during their 57 years of marriage.
They lived together in Texas (3 years), Spain (3 years), California (3 years), Mississippi (1 year), New York (6 months), Germany (2 years), California (3 years) and Utah (3 years) and then home to California when Donald retired.
When Donald retired from the US Air Force after 20 years in 1971, Doris went to work at Castle AFB in California as a grocery clerk and payroll bookkeeper for the US Air Force Civil Service and retired with 20 years service.
Before and after Doris retired they traveled in their RV to every state in the US except North Dakota.
They traveled to Alaska, England, Hawaii 3 times, and Australia twice.
They celibrated their marriage 9 Apr 2008 by exchangeing wedding vows at a family reunion in Fresno, CA.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Walter J. and Janie Alameda Coday Rippee and three infant children.
She is survived by her husband, Donald M. Godfrey of Fresno; son Donald B. Godfrey and wife Lise of Cabot, Arkansas; daughters, Deborah K. Medeiros of Fresno and Denise T. Glass of Fallbrook; brothers, Walter L. Rippee of Brentwood, Ronald Rippee and wife Dixie of Martinez and Donald Rippee and wife Kathy of Martinez; sister Donna and husband Les Wallers of Auberry; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A Memoral Service was held at Chapel of the Light in Fresno, CA on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.

Interment was in the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery at Santa Nella Village, Merced County, California.
