Roger Lee Barrett, 60, a Retired U.S. Army Major, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at in his home in Primm Springs, TN, after months-long battle with cancer.

Visitation is Thursday, September 3, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2009, at graveside in McCool, MS with burial in the McCool Cemetery. Jordan Funeral Home (662-289-5521) in Kosciusko, MS is handling the arrangements.

Born July 23, 1949, in McCool, MS, Roger Barrett lived in Attala County, MS. Roger is a 1967 graduate of Ethel High School. In 1971, he graduated from Mississippi State University and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He served 20 years in Army Aviation.

While serving in the Army, Barrett earned a master's degree in Public Administration from Golden State University. After a final assignment in the Army as Airfield Commander at Fort Bliss, TX, Maj. Barrett retired from service and was employed as a pilot for American Eagle Airlines and later Regions Air, both in Nashville, TN. An avid equestrian, Barrett owned several Arabian horses and competed in endurance rides all over the Southeast, winning the fifty mile Heavyweight National Endurance Championship in 2008

MAJ Barrett is survived by his wife, Eva de Paulis; a brother, Dr. Harris Guy Barrett and his wife, Michele of Mobile AL; and a sister, Melody Reese Barrett and her husband, Chris Cobb, of Fairfax, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Conner Barrett and Billie Wilkerson Barrett; and a nephew, Harris Guy Barrett, II.
