Lehman Akins, 82, died Wednesday night at Memorial Health University Medical Center after an extended illness.
The native of Bulloch County lived most of his life in Bryan County. Mr. Akins retired from Union Camp Corporation after 42 years of service as a paper maker-operator and was a member of the Local Union #388. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Blitchton and was in the Men's Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ruby B. Akins of Blitchton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. "Bob" and Elaine Akins of Claxton and Gary W. and Sharon J. Akins of Jacksonville, FL; a special adopted daughter, Pat Akins of Ellabell; one sister, Lillie Stephens of Statesboro; two grandchildren, Shane Akins and Angie Holland; four step-grandchildren, Ashley Harvey; Lisa Nelson, Marie White and Alan Young; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews
Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Jake A. Futch Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Jake A Futch Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Black and the Rev. Danny Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Harry Skinner, Ray Stephens, Johnny Deal, Ronnie Brown, Leonard Deal and Earl Key.
