June Marie Smee of Prineville died Thurs., Feb. 15, 2001 at an adult foster care home in Prineville. She was 83 years old.

She was born May 27, 1917 in Los Angeles to Sidney Lee and Elsie Katherine (Voght) Smith. She grew up in Glendale, Calif. riding horses and working cattle on her father's ranch in the Mojave Desert.

After graduation from high school she worked for Lockheed Aircraft Company making landing gears for World War II planes. She met Bert Smee after his return from WWII and they were married in 1947. She earned a degree as a L.V.N. from Comptom College and worked at Ventura Memorial Hospital caring for newborns. The couple moved to Lebanon in 1968 and recently moved to Prineville.

She is a past member of the First Baptist Church in Ojai, Calif., as well as past member of the Eastern Star and the local Square Dance Club in Ojai.

Mrs. Smee is survived by her husband Bert Smee of Prineville; daughter, Karen Bee of Prineville; son, Wilson Smee of Miami; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a twin brother and older sister.

Funeral services will be held Wed., Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Prineville Funeral Home and interment will follow at Juniper Haven Cemetery. Viewing is scheduled for today from 4 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Prineville Funeral Home.
