Titus resided in Davidson County where he enlisted as Private in Company B, 48th North Carolina infantry at the age of 25 on August 8, 1862, for the war. He was wounded and captured at or near Sharpsburg, Maryland on or about September 17, 1862. He was confined at Fort Delaware yankee prison, Delaware. He was paroled and transferred to Aiken's Landing, James River, Virginia on October 2, 1862. He was declared exchanged at Aiken's Landing on November 10, 1862. He returned to duty prior to December 13, 1862, when he was wounded in the shoulder at Fredericksburg, Virginia. He returned to duty in March-April 1864 and was again wounded in the right thigh at Ream's Station, Virginia on August 25, 1864. He was hospitalized in Richmond, Virginia and was furloughed for 60 days on December 31, 1864.
