ATHENS SUNDAY MESSENGER, Athens, Ohio, Monday, February 9, 1931: Mrs. D. A. Wells Dies on Sunday - Succumbs at Family Home Here; Funeral Services to Be Tuesday
NELSONVILLE, Feb. 9--Mrs. Dennie A. Wells, life-long and respected citizen of Nelsonville, died at the family home on West Washington Street at 3:30 o'clock Sunday morning. Mrs. Wells was the daughter of the late Ashford Poston and Margaret Catherine Butt Poston, and was born in this city October 1, 1861, spending her entire life here. She was married to Dr. Cassius M. Dew on July 31, 1878. They had one son, Dr. Cassius Guy Dew, this city. On April 26, 1883, she was married to T. Erven Wells, well-known newspaper publisher, who died in 1919. Three children were born: A. B. Wells, Athens; Miss Leona, at home; and Mrs. Vivian Grady, of Louisville, Ky. One grandchild, Vivian May Grady, a junior at Wellesley University, Boston, also survives.
Mrs. Wells was a graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and for a number of years following taught music in this city. She united with the First Presbyterian Church here February 6, 1876, and was church organist for many years. She was a member of Elizabeth Zane Dew Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and of the Hyperion Club.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the late residence, 152 West Washington Street, and will be conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Evans, pastor of the Presbyterian Church.
