Nan E. Smith, 82, of Amarillo died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with Kevin Roberts, whom she loved like a grandson, officiating.

Nan was born Dec. 12, 1926, in Ardmore, Okla., to V.G. and Ruth Gillis. She was a lifelong Baptist. She was an executive secretary to the store managers at Sears for 25 years. She was a member of Desk & Derrick, Business and Professional Women's Club and Women's Chamber of Commerce. She was an avid fan of Oklahoma University and the Dallas Cowboys; she enjoyed NASCAR, tennis and beach volleyball. She was instrumental in bringing the Women's National Invitational Basketball tournament to Amarillo. She treasured and loved her family, especially her great-grandchildren and was known as "Nana," "Gi Gi," "Grandmother" and "Mom." She will be dearly missed by the many lives she touched.

Survivors include two sons, Rick Smith and wife Jerri and Ken Smith and wife Helen; three grandchildren, Shannon Duby and husband Bobby, Keith Smith and wife Ginny and Steven Smith; two great-grandchildren, Benton Duby and Drew Smith; and her beloved dog, Chompers.

The family suggests memorials be to Amarillo Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, P.O. Box 1014, Amarillo, TX 79105; or American Heart Association, 2514 82nd St., Suite B, Lubbock, TX 79423.
