Abraham Lewis was a son of William Lewis and Sarah Boyers, born 14 Dec 1837 in Claiborne County. He served the Confederacy in Carter's Cavalry, along with his brothers Joseph and James Marion Lewis. All three were at the same time prisoners of war: Abe at Camp Morton Indiana; Joseph and James at Fort Delaware in the Delaware River. James died at Fort Delaware and is buried at Finns Point National Cemetery in New Jersey.

Abraham received a Confederate veteran's pension from the State of Tennessee. A testimony in his pension file written by Ben F Standifer states that Ben served with Abraham Lewis in the same company and ‘he made a good soldier'. He died 14 Oct 1921.
