The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Lucas County, Iowa; Thursday, January 26, 1905

The many Chariton friends were painfully shocked to learn of the sudden death of MRS. G.C. GASSER, which occurred yesterday (Wednesday) noon at the Hospital in Ottumwa where she underwent an operation last Saturday for the removal of gall stones. She rallied and apparently was getting along as well as could be expected until Wednesday forenoon when she suffered a relapse and death ensued in a few hours. Her sons, GEORGE and CHARLES, are expected to arrive tomorrow night from Pocatello, Idaho. The other children are now in Chariton. The remains were brought to her home in this city this morning on No. 3 and the funeral services will be held Saturday or Sunday but definite arrangements have not yet been made.

'IN MEMORY OF MRS. GASSER'

The Women's Relief Corps held a memorial service for their late co-worker and friend, MRS. GASSER, at the Court House on Friday last. Words of love and praise for the work she had done were spoken and all realized the loss they have sustained in the death of MRS. GASSER. MRS. ESTELLA MENTONYE and MRS. W. E. HARPER of Osceola, were present. The meeting was a large one, wishing to do honor to her memory.

The following resolutions were passed:

Whereas, Our Heavenly Father in his infinite wisdom has removed from the ranks of Iseminger Relief Corps No. 17 our much loved sister, GEORGIANA GASSER, and in her death the principals for which we are pledged; Fraternity, Charity, and Loyalty, have suffered a severe loss, and as we greatly deplore this dispensation of Providence, therefore be it.

Resolved, That we extend to the bereaved children and friends our heartfelt sympathy in this their hour of affliction and cause a copy of these resolutions to be spread upon our minutes, also a copy be furnished our city papers and official paper, G.A.R. Advocate, for publication and be it further

Resolved, That our charter be draped in mourning for thirty days, as an earnest evidence of our bereavement.
