The only child of Major Joseph C. Watkins and Lora Lee LaMance, Loralee was born in Pineville, McDonald County, Missouri on August 2, 1904. As a small child the family moved to Joplin, Missouri where her father, a civil engineer, worked for the McDonald Land Company owned by August Hecksher of New York. Around 1919 her father's work as a land surveyor brought the family to Lake Wales, Florida.

Loralee attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, graduating in 1926. In September 1926 she married Robert L. Johnson, son of one of Lake Wales founders. They were the parents of two children, a son and daughter, and remained in Lake Wales throughout their lives. Her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Lake Wales Garden Club and Women's Club and a charter member of the First United Methodist Church of Lake Wales. She was a member of the Bell Johnson Circle and sang in the choir.

Grandmother loved to travel and did so whenever she had the opportunity. She was a gracious hostess and after her parents death she moved into the lovely home on Lakeshore Blvd. where she lived for the next 50 plus years.
