Graduated from Atlanta Medical College in 1873. Member of the Douglas County Board of Education for 24 years and Chairman for 16 years. Served four terms as mayor of Lithia Springs. Served as the first resident physician for Sweetwater Park Hotel. His residence, which he built around 1875, still stands at 6720 South Sweetwater Road and is called "The Garrett House."
In 1890, Drs Christopher Columbus Garrett, Robert B. Cloud, and W. H. Whitehead
established the Lithia Springs Sanitarium, using natural lithium water in the
treatment of alcoholism, opium addiction, and compulsive behavior.
