U.S. Army, PVT 1C, WWI

Served as computer operator in the Coast and Geodetic Survey from April 9 to July 15, 1918, he resigned having been inducted into the military service of the United States. He was enrolled on July 18, 1918, and served with the 472nd Engineers of the U.S. Army at Camp Humphries, VA, and Charleston, SC.

Miller Aiken Cassedy, 60, retired employee of the Coast and Geodetic Survey and resident of the Washington area for many years, died Tuesday at Chestnut Lodge Sanitarium, Rockville, after a month's illness. He lived at 1308 Anson street, Silver Spring.

Mr. Cassedy the son of the late John L. Cassedy, who founded the old National Park Seminary, a girl's school in Forest Glen, in 1886. The school was taken over by the Government during the war and the buildings are now used as an annex to Walter Reed Medical Center.

Born in Boston, Mr. Cassedy was a graduate of Tome Institute and the University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Cassedy saw service in World War I and after his marriage to the late Mabel Gott Cassedy, moved from Forest Glen to Washington. He had lived in Silver Spring since 1935. He retired last year from the Coast and Geodetic Survey, where he had been a mathematician for 30 years.

Surviving are two daughters, the Misses Vesta and Anna Mary Cassedy, both of the Anson street address. A brother, Lt. Col. Harvey Cassedy of Silver Spring, died two years ago.

Funeral services were held at the Warner E. Pumphrey funeral home, Silver Spring, at 11 a. m. today. Burial was in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville.
