Our mother, Mattie Talley Sullivan, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park, Texas, with her grandson Lt. Col. Russell Jackson, officiating.
Mattie was born September 22, 1910, to Aples and Mattie "Snow" Bartlett at Seymour, Texas. In 1926, Mattie married L. L. Talley. Together they had two sons and four daughters. He preceded her in death in 1979. During World War II, and until 1953, she worked at Levi Strauss in Wichita Falls. In 1968, she married E. D. Sullivan and they moved to Kerville where she became an Avon Representative and sold for many years maintaining her status in the Presidents Club. She enjoyed traveling, reading, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, three sisters; and four brothers.
Mattie is survived by three daughters: Laverne Backhaus of Casper, Wyoming, Margaret Ille of Sand Springs, and Beverly Jackson and her husband Mick of Pueblo West, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren. Mattie was a vital part of our lives, and will be greatly missed.
