Hugh Michael "Mike" Carter, 57, of Providence Forge, Va., passed away after a short but courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. He is survived by his children, Toren of Alexandria and Sara of Roanoke; brothers, Ray (Debbie) of Providence Forge, and Robert of Montvale; and sisters, Becky (Jake) of Bedford, and Cathy of Lexington, Va. He also had many nieces and nephews that called him "Unca Mike." Mike had a passion for fishing that he loved to share with family and friends. He will be truly missed by all. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2009, at Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va., where services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2009. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park, Sandston. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.
