Nedra E. Warren, age 103, a resident of rural Portland in Pike Township, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Jay County Hospital in Portland surrounded by her family.

Nedra was born on April 14, 1911, in Fort Recovery, Ohio, the daughter of Burwell and Rosa B. (Ellis) Painter.

She was born and received her education in Fort Recovery. She retired from the office of Culligan Water Conditioning in Portland and also payroll clerk for Aunt Molly's Bakery in Redkey. On January 1, 1937, she received her pilot's license, which was one of her greatest joys and spent many hours growing beautiful flowers in her retirement and making quilts.

Survivors include:

1 son: Tom Warren – Portland, Indiana

1 daughter: Jane Thornburgh – Fairmount, Indiana

1 granddaughter: Robin Khayyata (husband Mike) – Arlington Heights, Illinois

2 great grandchildren: Maggie and Kaden Khayyata – Arlington Heights, Illinois

1 sister: Rosemary Hayes – Dunkirk, Indiana

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Arden Painter and Ralph Painter. Sisters Ara Andrews, Merle Close and Irene Goens.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Green Mound Cemetery in Fort Recovery, Ohio. Pastor Darrell Borders will officiate.

Arrangements entrusted to Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.
