At just 13 years old Paul began as an apprentice in the printing business in Iowa. He was admitted into the International Typographical Union in 1884. When just 20 years old he and his brother purchased the Sioux Falls Daily Argus-Leader which they ran for a number of years. During this time he founded also the Pierre Daily Capital. In 1894 he sold his interests in the west and came to IL, coming to Washington in 1899 and purchased The Post. He kept busy and was part owner of the telephone co. in Washington, IL for a time, part owner and organizer of the Bulldog Ins. Co. of Washington, and for the last 45 years he worked he was the editor of the Tazewell County Reporter
