David Schafer, 38, well-known employee of the Brunswick News Stand in Ritzville, died Monday afternoon in a Spokane hospital following a major operation. Although he had been in ill health for some time, his death came as a shock, since his condition was not believed serious. Funeral service were held this afternoon at the Zion Congregational chuch with the Rev. Peter Ruder officiating. Burial was in the Ritzville cemetery.

David Schafer was born Dec. 13, 1905 on a farm in Lincoln county, north of Ritzville. He attened school in Ritzville and moved here with his parents in 1914 when he was nine years old. Mr. Schafer never married and made his home with his parents all his life. His father died in 1940.

Besides his mother, he is survived by three brothers, Henry of Yakima and John and William of San Francisco Calif.; and six sisters, Mrs. Margaret LaFreniere, Bellinngham, Wash.,; Mrs. Elizabeth Streeter and Mrs. Freda Kupers of Ritzville; Mrs. Clara Knapp of Harrington; Mrs. Esther Mann of San Francisco, Calif.; and Mrs. Gerturde McCall of Ritzville.
