Peoria, Ill. - Aubrey "Auts" Fanning, 85, of Peoria, Ill., formerly of Pawcatuck,CT died at 7:55 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at Proctor Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1923, in La Grange, Ill. to Frank and Lena Fanning. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Frances Hughes Fanning, whom he married on Sept. 18, 1945, at Cour d'alene, Idaho.

He is also survived by his daughter, Linda A. Koos of Princeton, N.J., son, Brian Fanning of Iowa City, Iowa, daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Greg Russell of Peoria, daughter-in-law, Carol Fanning of Danielson; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

His son, David, predeceased him on March 21, 2000, as well as his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy and a 1950 graduate of Eastern Illinois University. He was active in the real estate profession throughout his career.

Cremation rites will be accorded by the Cremation Society of Mid Illinois Co. His final resting place will be in the Fanning Cemetery in Ledyard. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, at the home of his daughter, Cathy Russell of Peoria.
