Luther E. Saufley, 83, well-known farmer of the Sunnyside and Blue Ridge communities died at his home yesterday morning at 7:40.

He was a good neighbor and had many friends. He was a member of the Melanchthon Lutheran Chapel.

Mr. Saufley, who was most active in his community's affairs and was a successful farmer, was born Jan. 13, 1871, being a son of Benjamin and Martha Frances Craun Saufley. He was united in marriage more than 60 years ago to Bessie Myrtle Van Lear, who survives him.

He is also survived by six children: Mrs. V. P. Leavel, of Staunton; Lertie Saufley, of Verona; Frank Saufley, of Washington; Theodore Saufley, of Chicago; L. B. Saufley, of Weyers Cave; and Mrs. Ward Early, of Weyers Cave.

Two children, Mrs. K. C. Miller and Mrs. C. W. Saufley preceded him in death. Mr. Saufley is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Charles Baker, of Mt. Crawford, Mrs. Andy Garber, of Ft. Defiance, and Oscar Saufley, of Pineville

Funeral services will be held from the Cross Keys Church Tuesday morning at eleven o'clock. Ministers in charge will be his pastor, the Rev. T. Y. Mullins, of the Melanchthon Chapel, and the Rev. Charles Long. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandson and flowerbearers will be granddaughters.

The body will remain at Long's Funeral Home until ten o'clock Tuesday morning when it will be taken to the church. The casket will be open after the services.

Members of the immediate family will meet at his late home at 10:30 before going to the church. Friends and relatives are asked to meet at the church at 10:45.
