The son of George & Sarah Ann (Barnhart) Daihl, in 1860 he was a farmer living in Southampton Township, Franklin County. He stood 5' 9" tall and had brown hair and hazel eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Carlisle January 24, 1864, as a private with Battery C, 2nd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (112th Pa), and honorably discharged with his battery January 29, 1866.
After the war, he married Susan M. Gaff and fathered Sarah Ann (b. 12/05/70 - married Jacob Hammel), Carrie B. (b. @1872), Mary Elizabeth (b. 07/??/77 - married Luther A. Etter), Samuel E. (b. @ 1878), Clarence C. (b. 04/05/79), Frederick (b. 08/09/82), and Grace Mabel (b. 07/10/87 - married William Wheatfield). In 1910, he was living in Carlisle where he died from "cystitis, enlarged prostate & also diseased, weak heart."
