"Funeral services for John Clayton Valley, 74, were held Monday afternoon from Witsier's Chapel with the Reverend R. W. Maulden officiating. Burial took place in the Mt Hope Cemetery in the family plot. His death occurred Saturday, July 11, in the Shelton Hospital.

He was born May 29, 1868, in New Brunswick, Canada. He had lived in Shelton for 52 years and was a farmer in the Matlock district for many years. His wife, Mary, died July 1, 1937.

Surviving are four sons, William and Richard of Shelton, Gilbert of Olympia and Harvey of Los Angeles; one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Barrett of Port Angeles; two brothers, Joe of Shelton and Harvey of Gardiner, Maine; three sisters, Mrs. Matilda Dodge and Mrs. Elizabeth Spear of Gardiner, and Mrs. Frances Mahaney of Easton, Maine."
