Andthony T. Shemonski, 50, environmental engineer.
Anthony Thomas Shemnonski, an environmental engineer, died Tuesday at his home in Parkton of conmplication from cancer. He was 50.
Born in Huntington, Long Island, Mr. Shemonski moved with his family to Parkton in 1954.
He graduated from Hereford High School and enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in environmental engineering.
Mr. Shemonski's specialty was sewage, and he spent his career ensuring the Patapsco wastewater treatment plant and others like it met federal environment regulations.
"Bottom line is he spent the majority of his careet protecting the Chesapeake Bay," says Jerry F. Jurick, a mechanical engineer who worked with Mr. Shemonski at Johnson, Mirmiran and Thompson.
Before joining the Sparks engineering firm, where Mr. Shemonski was a vice president, he also worked at wastewater specialits Whitman, Requardt and Associates, and EA Engineering Science and Technology, Inc.
Mr. Shemonski devoted much of his time to Boy Scout Troop 468 in Parkton, where he spent his childhood as a Scout and returned as an adult to be troop leader.
A memorial service was held Friday at Gunpowder Baptist Church in Freelannd, where Mr. Shemonski taught Sunday School for nearly 17 years.
Mr. Shemonski is survived by his wife of 27 years, the former Margaret Ann Zitnyar, sons Michael Shemonski of Towson, and Daniel Shemonski, Nathan Shemonski, Alexander Shemonski and Gregory Shemonski, all of Parkton, his parents Anne and Anthony Shemonski of Parkton, and two sisters, Joan Miller of Parkton and Audrey Codaro of Lancaster, Virginia.
