Mr. James Edward Catoe, 67, of 275 South Potter Road, Lancaster, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008 at his home.
Born October 26, 1940 in Lancaster, Mr. Catoe was a son of the late Johnny J. Catoe and Phoye Miller Catoe Funderburk. He was a member of Pleasant Dale Baptist Church, where he served as Minister of Music for several years. He had retired from the S.C. Highway Department after 35 years of service. He had been Minister of Music for several churches, Pleasant Dale Baptist Church, Center Grove Baptist Church, Abney Baptist Church, Jones Crossroads Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church of Rock Hill. He also sang with Songsmen Group for twenty-five years and also with several other groups.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Catoe will be held Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Nunn and the Rev. Tim Larrimore officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Dale Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; a daughter, Myran C. Jones and her husband Jimmy; a son, James Michael Catoe of Lancaster; a brother, Hal Funderburk of Lancaster; and five grandchildren, Michael W. Gardner II, Will Jones, Brady Jones, Christopher Altman and Tyler Lee Catoe. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse J. Catoe.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home of Myran Jones, 488 Wateree Street, Lancaster.
