Joseph A. Alter, 86, of Cheyenne died Aug. 12 at United Medical Center-West.

He was born May 26, 1913, in Ralston, Neb., and had lived here since the early 1940s with prior residence in Nebraska.

Mr. Alter was a clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years.

He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Knights of Columbus, UP Oldtimers and Elks.

He is survived by two brothers, Earl Alter of Omaha, Neb., and Ralph Alter of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Agnes Birkner of Ralston and Jane Demitruk of Omaha; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie Alter on Dec. 8, 1997; his parents, Oral and Ann Alter; and two brothers, Harold Alter and Kenneth Alter.

Vigil for the Deceased will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes. Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. Carl Beavers as the celebrant. Interment will be in Olivet Cemetery.

Friends may contribute to St. Mary's Cathedral or Meals On Wheels.
