The funeral services of John D. Amidon were held Monday, April 13, at 2 p.m. at the home of his nephew, Dwight Chrisler in Marcellus, and interment was made in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Navarino. His remains arrived at noon in Syracuse from Florida, where he died February 24, at 3 p.m. Excelsior Grange, of which he was a charter member, conducted the services at the grave.
William D. Amidon and Clarinda Jackson Amidon lived in the homestead place where Albert Griffin now lives, and to them was born a family of ten, in this succession: Dwight Duportal, Mrs. Myra Chrisler, John Duane, Myron Delos, Nora who died when 21, William Dayton, Mrs. Eva Rouse, Ambrose Daniel, Mrs. Clara Hackford, Mrs. Hattie Curtis, But three remain; Mrs. Curtis, Dwight, and William.
Deceased married Ella Davis, and to them were born five children; Evan W. who is living, the others deceased were Clara, Lottie, Frank who dies in his teens, and Grace who was Mrs. Olin Baker. His second wife was Mrs. Lottie Hamiliton Knowles, who had a daughter Mable Knowles Slocombe, also surviving. John D. lived on the farm which was later taken by Myron D. next to Pine Ridge, John coming this side of Navarino until he sold out.
For many years he conducted an extensive business in the manufacture of tabacco. He was also active in the sale of farm stock. Mr. & Mrs. Amidon bought a little house on Dublin Street, where she died about eight years ago. He began wintering in Miami, Florida., he sold all his effects last year. His winters in Florida, led to his buying property there which he rented, and lived in part of a house.
The Ramsden-Slocombe party, the parsons and others met him just beforehis passing which was quite unexpected. We think his death the only occuring in Florida among those near us who winter there.
